Friend and fellow HIV Activist Jack Mackenroth has come up with an amazing way to combat HIV Stigma.

In social media and dating sites (especially in the gay community) we hear, "I'm clean" meaning I don't have HIV and I'm STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) free. These words, "I'm clean" only further stigmatized people living with HIV.  "I'm clean" gives the perception that people living with HIV are somehow dirty.  This is an awesome HIV Campaign and I'm very proud to participate.  Here are INSTRUCTIONS on how you can become apart of his movement.  

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Take a  selfie or Vine video of yourself in the shower.** NO EXPLICIT NUDITY**
2) Post your photo on Moovz and all social media platforms with the caption "Take HIV Shower Selfie Challenge raise $$ for AIDS cure bit.ly/CUREAIDS #weareALLclean"
3) Challenge 3 or more other people to participate!

Justin's HIV Journal: HIV Equal Campaign (Father and Son Team Up)

Justin's HIV Journal was very happy to help out in the HIV Equal Campaign along side the DC Center and Whitman Walker Health. 

The point of this campaign is to show that YES we ALL have an HIV status...Do you know yours?

HIV Equal is an international multimedia campaign that aims to end HIV stigma and promote HIV testing by creating a social art movement that changes the way people think about HIV and which reopens the national dialogue about HIV.

 My son Lundyn was very proud to participate.

Joan Rivers: HIV Activist and Comedy Roast Videos

Joan Rivers died on September 4^th, 2014 at the age of 81 Many of you do not know that Joan Rivers wasn’t just a comedian, but she was an HIV/AIDS activist.  She would distribute food to HIV/AIDS patients in the NYC area, for a non-profit called God’s Love We Deliver.  In 2009 when Rivers won The Celebrity Apprentice in 2009 her prize money bought 56,000 meals, since then it’s grown to other cities such as Detroit, Chicago and San Francisco.

Justin's HIV Journal: Open That Closet Door Fashion Show 2014 -- Presented by NovaSalud, Inc (VIDEO & PICTURES)

On August 16, 2014 NovaSalud Inc. put on a beautiful fashion show are the O street Mansion in NW DC.   Clothing designed by Juan Jose Saenz-Ferreyros Peruvian Fashion Designer and Owner of Ferreyros Couture Company Photography by Chris Zarconi Photography and Jose Dimas C M.  All models have been affecting in some shape of form by HIV/AIDS.  The fashion show was meant to fight against the stigma of HIV.  I participated in the fashion show and mini-doc and I really appreciate all the NovaSalud does and continues to do in the community.  Fellow HIV/AIDS activist Rod McCoy and Patrick Ingram were models as well.  I hope to work with NovaSalud again.

NovaSalud is established by and for the community, NovaSalud, Inc's mission is to improve and strengthen the health and well-being of our diverse Northern Virginia community through culturally-competent and language-appropriate HIV/AIDS services and prevention education.  NovaSalud works to effect the change necessary to instill understanding and compassion, and strives to mitigate the discrimination and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Justin HIV Journal: Celebration Of Life LGBTQ Film Project

This was very artistic and keep in mind the video has some nudity in it. 

This is a film by the bossacima project which took place in the Bossa Lounge in the Adams Morgan section of Washington DC.  The project was made to showcase and celebrate all walks of life in the LGBTQ community.    It was my first and I believe it was 2005 in which this was made.   It was an amazing project to work with Daniel Cima, Rachid Abdallah and videographer Susana Travieso. 

It was completely liberating for me.  At the time I worked as an exotic dancer and I was just leaving the military in 2003.  I needed the money and was not very marketable professionally.  So the project used those two aspects of my life in the project.  It was an amazing finished work by all who participated and I wouldn’t take it back for anything in the world.

HAPPY 5TH YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: The man that I'm so deeply in love with, who rises above the rest, who leads by example and dared to love me back. You are the one who keeps me motivated and helps me to fulfill my dreams, no matter how far fetched they are. Justin's HIV Journal: PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) NEW HIV PREVENTION PILL

According to the CDC (2014) Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a way for people who do not have HIV to help prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day.  The pill contains two medicines that are also used, in combination with other medicines, to treat HIV. When someone is exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, PrEP can help stop the virus from establishing a permanent infection. 

In 2012 the Food and Drug Administration approved the HIV prevention measure, but it is still not widely known.  PrEP is a one pill a day named Truvada, which is produced in California from Gilead Sciences.  Severe and sometimes fatal lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acid in the blood) and liver problems have occurred with Truvada.  Symptoms of lactic acidosis include unusual weakness or tiredness; unusual muscle pain or cramps; fast or difficult breathing; stomach pain with vomiting, nausea, feeling cold, especially in the arms and legs; dizziness or light-headedness; fast and/or irregular heartbeat. Symptoms of liver problems include yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, persistent loss of appetite, nausea, and/or stomach pain.

BUT NOT TO WORRY:  An insider has told me that researchers are developing another 1 pill a day HIV prevention regime that is less harmful to humans for consumption.

This is a great breakthrough.  I’m very glad for this as long as we put things into prospective.  This discovery can help us get to zero and can help the gay community combat HIV and hopefully we will never be put down by HIV again. 

"If something comes along that's better than condoms, I'm all for it, but Truvada is not that," said Michael Weinstein, President of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. "Let's be honest: It's a party drug."  After his reaction to the drug many people were in uproar and wanted him to resign as president of AHF.  "There's an element in the gay community that espouses 'anything goes,' that is for sexual freedom and not giving an inch," he said. "But demonizing me or AHF isn't going to shut us up."  I think I understand what he was trying to say, but I don’t think it was the best way to put it. 

The concerns that steam from this are that the gay community will use this as an excuse to have more sex without condoms.  I don’t think that will be the case but I do understand his concern.  The concern that people will stop using condom and use Truvada is a big concern amongst doctors as well.  They have started to see people the beginnings of people asking for a prescription for it.  One major concern is that when using Truvada for HIV prevention that people will forget about the things it doesn’t prevent like, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Vaginitis, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Human Papillomavirus (HPV) or Genital Warts, Hepatitis, Trichomonas etc.  I don’t say this to scare you but reality is reality.  #thetruth.
