Serve with PRIDE the film Trailer (Release Date in June 2023)

Justin Terry-Smith helps, as a Producer to create the film SERVE WITH PRIDE!

Throughout American history, the LGBTQ community has served their country with distinction and honor while experiencing discrimination within their ranks.

Members of the LGBTQ community have faced the challenges of service under discriminatory military policies such as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT)”, and made valuable contributions to the preservation of freedom and democracy without receiving praise and commendations for their extraordinary struggles and sacrifices.

It is our intention to share the military history and personal stories of LGBTQ Veterans who have changed the world through their commitment and dedication to military service.

This film is a documentary featuring interviews with LGBTQ veterans from each branch of service. Serve with PRIDE, LLC is honoring the achievements of the LGBTQ community in the military for the purpose of preserving the valuable contributions they have made in preserving freedom and democracy in this country and the world.

Justin's rapist found dead

In 2001 I was raped by a man Mike Jones AKA BrownSuga. I was in the military serving under Don't Ask Don't Tell. I couldn't get help because of fear of being investigated. I met him at an LGBTQ nightclub called at the time, The 501 Club off Florida Ave in NW. He asked if I wanted to get something to eat afterward. I was hungry so I agreed. On our way, he said he needed to stop at his house. I drove him there, and he got out of the car and said wait here. I did he came back with a knife. He raped me in my car threatening to kill me. He fought and I eventually got away after a chase on foot. I made it to a police station reported it and went to Howards University Hospital to endure a rape kit. The next day I was driven back home to Dover AFB. 20 years later I am not vindicated, my voice has now been heard and justice has been done. This only happened after the VA gave me compensation for the trauma. then literally 2 weeks later...

My rapist is now DEAD...he was murdered. I do believe in Karma

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department said a man faces a charge of Second Degree Murder after he attacked another man with a pipe on The Ellipse Wednesday morning.

Someone found the body of Michael Jones, 52, around 8:40 a.m. in the 200 block of 15th St. NW. The location is part of the park located south of the White House.

MPD said he and the man accused of killing him, Daniel Simon, 41, were homeless and had gotten into a fight. The Metropolitan Police Department said Thursday that members of the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division located Simon, shortly after the attack on Jones and took Simon to the MPD’s homicide branch.

As a result of detectives’ investigation, Simon was charged.

U.S. pauses use of J&J COVID-19 vaccine over rare blood clots

U.S. federal health agencies on Tuesday recommended pausing the use of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine for at least a few days after six women under age 50 developed rare blood clots after receiving the shot, dealing a fresh setback to efforts to tackle the pandemic.

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) said it would delay rollout of the vaccine to Europe, a week after regulators there said they were reviewing rare blood clots in four recipients of the shot in the United States.

Acting U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Janet Woodcock said the agency expected the pause to be a matter of days, and was aimed at providing information to healthcare providers on how to diagnose and treat the clots.

The moves come after European regulators said earlier this month they had found a possible link between AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine and a similar rare blood clotting problem that led to a small number of deaths.

J&J's single-dose shot and AstraZeneca's low-cost vaccine are seen as vital weapons in the fight against a pandemic that has claimed more than three million lives. But in the United States, vaccines from Moderna Inc and Pfizer Inc/BioNTech SE have accounted the vast majority of vaccinations so far.

Immunology experts echoed U.S. officials in underscoring that the risk posed by the J&J vaccine appeared extremely low, and it remained a valuable tool against the risks of COVID-19.

"Even if causally linked to the vaccine: 6 cases with about 7 million doses ... is not something to panic about," Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in Baltimore, said in an email, noting that the risk appears lower than the risk of clots from oral contraceptives.

"People are asking me if they should cancel their J&J vaccine appointments and I have told them not to but I know many will and this will stall progress in controlling the pandemic," he added.

The FDA said there had been one reported death from the rare blood clotting condition among recipients of the J&J vaccine, while another person was in a critical condition.

FDA official Peter Marks said it was "plainly obvious" the J&J cases were "very similar" to the AstraZeneca ones.

However, officials said there had been no similar blood clot cases reported among recipients of the Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines, which use a different technology.

The White House said the J&J vaccine pause would not have a "significant" impact on its plan to administer about three million shots per day and a total of 200 million before President Joe Biden's 100th day in office.

Marks said part of the reason for the pause was to warn doctors that administering the standard treatments for clots can cause tremendous harm, or be fatal.

BALANCE OF RISKS

J&J's vaccine rollout has been limited by production issues. As of April 12, more than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine had been administered in the United States, representing about one reported blood clot case per million people.

An advisory committee to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will meet on Wednesday to review the cases, and the FDA will review the analysis, the agencies said in a statement.

All six cases involved women between the ages of 18 and 48, with symptoms occurring six to 13 days after vaccination. The FDA said symptoms can arise three weeks after the shot and include severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath.

In the cases, a type of blood clot called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) was seen in combination with low levels of blood platelets, or thrombocytopenia.

J&J, whose shares were down 2%, said it was working closely with regulators and noted no clear causal relationship had been established between the clots and its vaccine.

"To put this into perspective, it's similar to the chance of being struck by lightning in any given year in the UK. On the other hand, the risks from COVID-19 are substantial," said Ian Douglas from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

"If all 6.8 million people who've received the J&J vaccine in the U.S. were infected with the virus, several thousand would likely die and many more, including younger adults, would experience serious and long-lasting after effects."

PROBLEMS

The J&J and AstraZeneca vaccines both use an adenovirus vector - a harmless cold virus - to deliver instructions for  human cells to produce a protein found on the surface of the coronavirus, spurring the immune system to recognize and attack the actual virus.

Among leading global COVID-19 vaccine developers, China's CanSino Biological and Russia's Gamaleya Institute with its Sputnik V vaccine also rely on this approach. The Pfizer/BioNtech and Moderna vaccines use messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) continues to recommend  use of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine, saying the benefits outweigh the risks. Several EU countries, however, have limited its use to certain age groups.

As of April 4, the EMA said 169 cases of CVST and 53 of splanchnic vein thrombosis had been reported after vaccination with the AstraZeneca shot. About 34 million people had been given the shot in Europe by then.

J&J only began delivering its COVID-19 vaccine to European Union countries this week.

Justin takes Home COVID-19 test!

After having a fever of 101.2 and muscle aches, I felt like I should take a COVID test. My husband and I isolate ourselves as much as possible. I didn't think I had COVID, only because my husband and I isolate and don't really go out a lot. COVID has been responsible for over 180 thousand deaths in Maryland, 12.2 million deaths in the United States, and over 55.6 million deaths all over the world. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19: Fever or chills Cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Fatigue Muscle or body aches Headache New loss of taste or smell Sore throat Congestion or runny nose Nausea or vomiting Diarrhea Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately: Trouble breathing Persistent pain or pressure in the chest New confusion Inability to wake or stay awake Bluish lips or face Call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.

COVID-19/Corona Virus Stay At Home Order ignored

#COVID-19 #CoronaVirus #StayAtHomeOrder People do not understand that COVID-19 is a deadly disease. The LEADER OF NORTH CAROLINA PROTESTS AGAINST STAY-AT-HOME TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS so she ignored the Stay-At-Home order and could've infected others who would take the virus back to their homes and infect other people. When I posted that story people gave me crap for shaming her. I'm not shaming here I'm pissed off that she would ignore regulations and then unknowingly infect other people. Privilege and entitlement for a hair cut are ridiculous and then ignoring the stay at home order is dangerous. Well, I can say that if I die of this disease I did not knowingly contribute to its spread. Please exercise your constitutional right to be an asshole somewhere else and not near me.

Background

In December 2019, Chinese health officials announced they were investigating a pneumonia outbreak of unknown etiology (cause) in the city of Wuhan, China.  At that time, it was reported that many of the cases were linked to a seafood and animal market in Wuhan.  Since then, health officials have reported that the outbreak was caused by a novel coronavirus, and the illness has been named "coronavirus disease 2019" (abbreviated "COVID-19").

Since then, thousands of cases have been reported and some cases have been fatal.  Cases of COVID-19 have been identified elsewhere in China, and in other countries, including in the United States.

About Coronaviruses

There are many viruses in the coronavirus family that can cause illness in both humans and animals.  Several coronaviruses commonly circulate among people all of the time, and cause mild to moderate illnesses, such as the common cold.  Other coronaviruses commonly circulate only in animals.  Rarely, animal coronaviruses can evolve and infect people and then spread between people as has been seen with MERS and SARS.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Commonly reported symptoms of COVID-19 infection include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pneumonia

While the exact incubation period for this coronavirus has not yet been determined, it is believed that most infected people will develop symptoms 2-14 days after they were exposed.

Transmission

Many of the patients in the pneumonia outbreak caused by COVID-19 in Wuhan, China had some link to a large seafood and live animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread. However, person-to-person spread is now widely occurring.

Prevention

There is no vaccine available for COVID-19.  In general, people can protect themselves and others against respiratory viruses by taking the following precautions:
  • Wash your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap & water.
  • Cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • If you are sick, stay home from work or school.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Practice good health habits.
It's not too late to get your flu shot!  While the influenza vaccine does not protect against coronavirus infection, it can help keep you healthy during the flu season.

Diagnosis

Currently, testing for COVID-19 can only be done at certain public health laboratories.  Clinical laboratories do not have the ability to test for this particular virus, though they do have the ability to test for the other, more common coronaviruses that circulate in people all the time.

Treatment

People with COVID-19 should receive supportive care. There is no specific antiviral treatment for this illness.

Guidance for people who recently traveled to China

Public health authorities have implemented travel procedures for travelers from China arriving in the United States.

  • Guidance for travelers from other parts of China (outside Hubei Province) in the past 14 days includes:
    • If you have fever, cough, or trouble breathing: CDC staff at the airport will evaluate you for illness. You will be taken to a medical facility for further evaluation and care. You may not be able to complete your travel itinerary.
    • If you do not have symptoms: You will be allowed to reach your final destination. After arrival at your final destination, you will be asked to monitor your health for a period of 14 days from the time you left China. You will receive a health information card that tells you what symptoms to look for and what to do if you develop symptoms. During that time, you should stay home and limit interactions with others as much as possible. Your state or local health department will contact you for further follow up.
  • Guidance for travelers from the Hubei Province, and other resources for returning travelers are available on the CDC Information for Travelers website.

Guidance for people who recently traveled to other countries with community spread of COVID-19
Monitor CDC Travel Health Notices webpage for important travel notifications.

Travelers returning from countries outside of China with community spread of COVID-19 are encouraged to monitor for symptoms, and call their healthcare provider if symptoms develop.
